You’re likely already aware of Old Town Alexandria’s place in history, but did you know that this colonial-era seaport — once called home by George Washington and General Robert E. Lee — also boasts rich and diversified dining and nightlife scenes? Here are a few of our spots within this history-steeped town on the Potomac River!
There are countless restaurants situated along the brick-paved King Street, Old Town Alexandria’s main thoroughfare, but Vermillion just might be one of the best. Decked out in plush red banquettes and exposed brick, this New American eatery specializes in farm-to-fork fare. The menus vary by season, but be sure to order the squash soup when available! And don’t overlook this trendy eatery for weekend brunch, either. (The brioche French toast is a must-have.)

2) Misha’s Coffee
Misha’s Coffee is the spot to sip a cup of joe in Old Town Alexandria. Located just off King Street, this sprawling cafe earns high marks for its single-origin coffee beans, which are roasted by hand in small batches. Lattes, espresso, and other coffee drinks are served in paper cups sporting a bright orange color, the same hue as the cafe’s walls. Whether you arrive for a pour-over or people-watching, don’t skip a locally sourced pastry to go along with your experience.

3) Basin Street Lounge
One of the best spots in town to sip an artisanal cocktail, Basin Street Lounge has been a fixture of Old Town Alexandria since 1979. This swanky, dimly lit space hosts blues and jazz musicians almost every night of the week, proving it to be a great spot to meet some friends from The Kingsley for an expertly poured Tom Collins and world-class live music.
